1  Mae nam Beach

koh samui Beach heaven
Mae nam is a beach very little known by tourists. It is lying on north shore of the island of Koh Samui and is absolutely stunning. Not so far from the beach, there is the Mae nam village that holds a Market every morning and food strolls all day long where you can get cheap and delicious Thai food.

I especially enjoyed Mae nam Beach for its wilder, more preserved, aspect. It is a peaceful and quiet beach where beautiful coconut palms and white sand will make you forget about everything else. Mae nam is a hidden paradise to absolutely add to your list!

How to get there:

What to do:

  • Paddle
  • Windsurf
  • Jet Ski
  • Have a drink at the  WOO Bar
  • Zip-lining (Canopy adventure not so far from the beach in the middle of the jungle )

Where to eat:

  • Takhoe Bang Po Seafood
  • Krua Chao Baan ( Khao Chao)
  • The Boudoir
  • Kobori (Japonese)

2 Thong Takian Beach (Silver Beach)

Thong Takian Beach or more commonly known as the Silver Beach is a tiny beach encircled by cliffs. It is less touristy than Lamai or Chaweng but remains nevertheless popular. You can snorkel to see the coral and some colorful fishes. This is one of my favorite spots in Koh Samui.

How to get there:

What to do :

  • Dolce Far niente at the Beach
  • Massage at the Tamarind Spring Spa  (must do!)
  • Snorkel (Bring your own)

Where to eat:

  • Rock Salt
  • Talai Beach Restaurant

3 Samrong Beach and Thongson Bay

These twin beaches are undoubtedly one of my best discoveries on the island. They are not the popular destination for tourists in Koh Samui and are still very wild. They have kept their authenticity and untamed aspect.

On the other hand, the down side to that there is not much to do in the area (especially at Thongson Bay). This makes it a perfect place for people in search of calm and relaxation.

How to get there:

What to do :

  • Enjoy the Beach

Where to eat:

  • Dining on the Rocks ( Six senses Samui)

4 Chaweng Beach

Chaweng is located on the east side of the island and is in fact the most famous beach of Koh Samui. It is a beautiful spot with turquoise water and fine sand, but expect it to always be packed with hundreds and thousands of tourists from all over the world looking for the perfect tan under the tropical sun.

How to get there:

What to do :

  • Get a massage at the beach
  • Paddle
  • Windsurf
  • Have a drink Ark Bar (la journée ou le soir)

Where to eat:

  • The Larder
  • Stacked
  • The Jungle Club
  • Coast Beach Bar and Grill
  • Phensiri Thai Bistro

5 Lamai Beach

Lamai is often considered the competitor of Chaweng being the 2nd most popular beach of the island. Water is a little more agitated than in Chaweng due to the absence of coral reef in the area.

A little further south, between Lamai and Hua Thanon Beach is located the Hin Ta and Hin Yai beach famous for to big rocks in the shape of male and female genitals. Check it out, it is worth a quick stop!

How to get there:

What to do :

  • Paddle
  • Windsurf
  • Jet Ski
  • Yoga SUP
  • Have a drink at Beach Republic Ocean Club

Where to eat:

  • Kob Thai
  • No Stress Beach and Bar Restaurant
  • Baobab Samui
  • Rocky’s

6 Choeng Mon Beach

Choeng Mon is a lovely little white sand beach still uncrowded by tourists. It is located in the northeast of the island and will tranquility lovers.

Personally, I loved spending time in Choeng Mon during my stay in Koh Samui. It allowed me to take a break from the hustle and bustle of Bophut, Lamai and Chaweng.

How to get there:

What to do :

  • Enjoy the beach

Where to eat:

  • Krua Thai,
  • Akbar (Indian Restaurant)
  • Aroma Boutique Café
  • Honey Sea food restaurant

7 Bophut Beach

BoPhut is rapidly turning into a trendy/upscale destination and has some of the finest accommodations on the island of Koh Samui. The beach of Bophut is very pretty but it is not very suitable for swimming because of its sharp coral reefs and its muddy bottom seabed. However, I definitely recommend having lunch there, having a drink during sunset (at the Coco Tams) going for a walk in the evening and even staying at a beach front accomodation in the area.

How to get there:

What to do:

  • Paddle
  • Windsurf
  • Have a drink at Coco Tams
  • Night Market on Friday (starts at 5PM)
  • Take a night walk at the Beach

Where to eat:

  • Chez François
  • Café 69
  • Barracuda

8 Lipa Noi Beach

Right next to the main port of Koh Samui is Lipa Noi beach. It is a very convenient option for tourists who have just arrived from Surat Thani by ferry. The water is shallow and pleasant to swim which makes it a perfect spot for families traveling with children.

Lipa Noi beach is surrounded by coconut trees and becomes a real colorful canvas during sunset. It is definitely one of my favorite spots on the island to watch the sun go down.

How to get there:

What to do:

  • Visit the culturel center Dusit Dhewa (not that far from the beach)
  • Visiter la ville de Nathon (by motobike)
  • Have a drink at the Nikki Beach

Where to eat :

  • Le petit bouchon
  • Think
